17th of Dec 2013
Now, non resident Indians want to vote for a better India. US based Overseas Volunteers for a Better India (OVBI) today announced that it will hold 'Big Ideas for a Better India' event on December 22 in Washington, D.C. This event will bring together a panel of decision-makers, and professionals from across the US in a conversation about ideas to bring change for a better India.

Spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will preside over the event as the keynote speaker. The conference will be attended among others by Naveen Jain (innovator and entrepreneur), Rajiv Malhotra (philanthropist and founder of Infinity foundation) and Sunil Nayak (President - Chalo Gujarat World Gujarati conference). The event will include the unveiling of the "Vote for a Better India" android app and a presentation about 'I Vote for a Better India' campaign launched by VBI (Volunteer for a Better India), according to a release.

OVBI has been actively mobilising ideas on how best the Indian diaspora can participate in the Indian growth story. For instance, in October OVBI hosted a Google hangout session with former IPS officer Kiran Bedi to discuss role of NRIs in the 2014 general elections.

At the Big Ideas event more than 100 Indian community leaders from 25 major cities in the US are expected to attend. Representatives from lawyers and doctors associations, students' representatives from over 50 US universities, cultural and regional associations, business owners associations, academicians, software professionals and fellow Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from diverse backgrounds are expected to attend the event that aims to bring about a positive change in India, the release added.

One of the key focus areas will be how Volunteer for Better India (VBI) in conjunction with Election Commission of India is driving an effort to create awareness of the voter registration program.

"It's important as NRIs that we come together and give back to our home country," said Naveen Jain, Inome and Moon Express founder and CEO.

OVBI was launched in May 2013 and is the overseas wing of the Indian organization VBI. It provides a global platform for the 23 million non-resident Indian ( NRI) community worldwide to express how best they can help contribute to India's growth and development.
